Religion, or Life?

In 1832, the year he left the ministry, Emerson wrote these words in his journal:

“Religion in the mind is not credulity, and in the practice is not form. It is a life … It is to do right. It is to love, it is to serve, it is to think, it is to be humble.”

In my mind, this is the only kind of religion that makes sense, and the only kind that the world really needs.
