To Watch Well

I have no aversion to a version of verse on any day along the way (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Here’s a nicely compact poem I was reading before slumber last night, from my poet friend Jim in his collection Sphere Spun:

“View”

Years are too few

Not to watch well.

Stop for the view

whenever you can.

It may not be

the Grand Canyon,

or the blue waters

of Corfu,

but any good

landscape should do.

Try not to look

for more than is there

or what it might

mean to you.

Forget about clues

to some masterplan.

Just watch how

it holds the light

and notice

anything new.
