Today’s column borrows a story from the ancient scripture, The Bhagavad Gita, to address a serious contemporary problem.
Can We Talk About Religious Supremacy?
“When religious supremacy takes power in a community or culture, the body politic must respond with the highest form of supremacy: the Greater Good. A utilitarian approach (what works the best for the most) seems the wise guide, especially in a secular society that protects religious freedom but not religious supremacy.”
Your thoughts?
Hi Chris. This is a great quote I want to use in my book. Hinduism has been usually very inclusive except for a few periods of intolerance including recent political suppressions. Could you send the reference to me as I will look at the quote as an early example of a much more humanistic way to define “supremacy”. Thanks
Thanks, Marty, you’re welcome to use that quote from my column. I’m “supremely” pleased you can use it!
