from the Introduction. . .
“To be a rebel is to be a conscious person, cognizant of the currents shaping the landscapes of the current contemporary world. A rebel is not always rebellious, as an obstinate, disgruntled adolescent. From the Latin word rebellis, it is based on bellum: war. This doesn’t mean they are all warlike or even warriors. To be a rebel is to choose to be a person who “rises in opposition” against an established authority, to be a dissenter, a nonconformist, iconoclast, heretic.
We revere revolutionaries of the past, when we see ourselves on the winning side, the “good” side (or “God” side). Rebelling revolutionaries can be our “patriots” and protagonists or disruptors who destabilize the order we hold most dear.”
