Writing with Intention

Looking back over various comments and reviews of my writing (see the Books and Essays & Columns pages), I found this statement that seems to encapsulate the heart of my intention with scribbles on a page:

“As a fellow freethinker, I am fascinated by the message, and resonate with your approach that your writings “are not for the ‘faint of faith’ or the ‘aggressive of atheism.”

It’s very rewarding for my work to be acknowledged by readers who pay attention to the intention, that what I write may trouble some people across the spectrum of belief and non-belief, but the purpose is to present freethinking as a positive, creative, constructive process of inquiry.  I enjoy digging into beliefs to bring to light those questions that must be asked in the pursuit of wisdom.  At least from my personal perspective.

Not everyone appreciates what I write, of course, and I wouldn’t expect that, but most readers seem drawn to an approach that may disturb the faint of faith as well as the aggressive of atheism, yet invites each to wrestle a bit with prickly ideas that matter.

Thank you for reading, and commenting!

  1. That Chris my friend is writing with a sense of critical inquiry but with the respect of a person with humanistic values that accepts others have the “write” to their viewpoints.

You are one of the few independent writers that I support on the internet. We also share a deep love for the woods and the creatures that reside therein. Cheers,
