I took this photo this afternoon as the “curiosity beetle” was ambling across my Thoreau book.
Look for my column on “Seeing through a glass darkly” coming next Saturday. This little creature had a few lessons to amble and ramble through my head.

I’ve never heard those called “curiosity beetles” before. I’ve always called it a “stink bug”, (Or, more specifically the “brown marmorated stink bug” a seriously invasive agricultural pest recently introduced from Japan.) My daughter calls them “perv bugs” for their tendency to find their way into her bathroom, and then just sit there and stare at her.
Yep. Except they don’t stink unless smashed, so we don’t. Just so damned curious, and totally helpless when on their backs. Invasive, I guess. Like us?
