The Reasons for the Season

For some “reason” this has to be explained every Winter Season.

IF you celebrate, whatever you celebrate, I wish you a bright and hopeful season.

  1. Happy Holidays Chris. Thought I would make a comment on this acknowledgment of why Dec. 25th is the date ritualized for the birth of Jesus. I have read abit on this and you are correct according to scholars and many of them there is no document or historical data to verify when JC was born even the year is under dispute 4BCE- 2AD. Actually, many Catholic religious rituals are based on the time of year that the pagan gods were worshipped as a continuation of the gathering with a new focus. Just like in your USA, Martin Luther day has partially been taken over by the Black Lives Matter consortium.

Here in British Columbia with our Humanist Association we always have a Solstice Celebration with no religious readings or even acknowledging that this a nativity for JC. We read poetry and acknowledge our life on earth would not exist without our “god” the creator of life our Sun. We share this with many agrarian cultures and I actually have a statue of Ra the Egyptian god of the sun. I love the sun and its amazing effect on all living beings and the basis for all life except deep sea small cells who evolved to only need water and it chemical bases. We have no proof but their is evidence (hearsay) they worship the gods of hydrogen and Oxygen.

I will have to look for one of your writing for our next Solstice dinner and read it to our group and introduce them to your writing which I have enjoy and read frequently.

Merry Solstice, and a wonderful start to 2025. Keep up your creative contributions as I’m sure you have a loyal following. When my book on Humanism for Multifaith Centers is completed I may have you give it a read and make comments on your impressions. What say ye?

    • A Good Solstice Season to you too, Marty! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if more of us honored the Sun more than the Son from ancient times? (and the Parker probe, traveling over 400,000 miles per hour, just came closer than ever to the Sun!). Those Pagans were onto something. . .the natural order that sustains all regardless of political, ideological or religious borders. I continue to be ready and willing to read whatever you are publishing. All the best in the New Year. Chris

      • Best if the New Year 2025 to you Chris. It will be a challenge for you liberals living under a deluded and out of touch regime in Washington but you will survive but DJT may not.

The more I watch and read about historical natural events or our universe I can see how things have changed since we moved past mystical and religious interpretation of the world around us. E.g a lightning ball according to the indigenous elders is the spirit of a hero returned to show of the world beyound. According to theologians it shows the power of god to demonstrate to those that are sinners what will happen to those that disobey and to scientific meteorologists it is a very compact electro-magnetic bundle very rare but hit the earth on occasion during storms. A spirit, a warning to sinners or a natural electrical but rare event. How times change. But all three are still alive depending on who you claim as an expert. Same as son, sun or santa claus.

I will value your opinions on my writings in the months ahead and I acknowledge your patience.
